Udharbond Factory Blast: Minister Kaushik Rai Announces 5 Lakh Relief, Orders 4-Tier Probe

Date:

A shroud of grief and public anger hangs over the Pangram area in Udharbond following a devastating industrial accident. A high-intensity cylinder explosion at a local TMT bar manufacturing unit claimed the lives of four workers on the spot, triggering immediate administrative intervention and widespread concern over industrial safety protocols.

In the wake of the disaster, Assam Minister Kaushik Rai rushed to the accident site to make an on-ground assessment of the situation and review the crisis management efforts by local authorities.

Financial Assistance and Strict Action Against Management

Interacting with locals and officials at the site, Minister Kaushik Rai expressed profound grief over the loss of lives. To support the grieving families during this severe crisis, he announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹5 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of the deceased workers.

Addressing the core issue of corporate accountability, the Minister issued strict directives to the Cachar district administration. He emphasized that financial relief from the state is only the first step; the district administration must ensure that the factory management is held legally and financially accountable, forcing the owners to pay substantial, mandatory compensation to the victims’ families.

Crucial Questions: Was Worker Safety Ignored?

The tragic incident has opened a Pandora’s box regarding operational standards in regional industrial units. The primary question echoing through the district is: How did such a catastrophic disaster occur?

Local residents and workers are raising urgent concerns about whether the factory management compromised safety guidelines, bypassed statutory rules, or operated heavy machinery without proper regulatory oversight. Fixing accountability for the four lost lives has become the central public demand.

Comprehensive 4-Tier Investigation Ordered

To uncover the absolute truth and address allegations of negligence, Minister Kaushik Rai announced that the state and district machinery will leave no stone unturned. A rigorous, four-tier investigation process has been officially instituted:

  1. Police FIR & Legal Action: A formal criminal investigation led by the Cachar District Police based on the registered First Information Report.
  2. Magisterial Probe: An administrative inquiry conducted under the supervision of the district administration to evaluate procedural lapses.
  3. Labour Safety Audit: A specialized inspection by the Assistant Labour Commissioner to probe violations of industrial labor laws and worker protection protocols.
  4. Guwahati Forensic Team Analysis: A dedicated scientific and technical expert team dispatched directly from Guwahati to examine the blast site, analyze the ruptured cylinder, and determine the exact scientific trigger behind the explosion.

Current Status at Silchar Medical College (SMCH)

Providing updates on the mortal remains, Minister Rai stated that the bodies of the four deceased workers have been shifted to the forensic medicine department at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Rigorous post-mortem examinations are currently underway. District authorities have confirmed that as soon as the medical procedures are completed, the bodies will be respectfully handed over to the respective family members for final rites.

Meanwhile, local police forces and security personnel remain deployed at the accident site to maintain law and order as the investigation unfolds.
