Rail connectivity linking the Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur with the rest of the country has come to a near-complete standstill following a massive landslide in the Badarpur–Lumding hill section. In an urgent notification issued on Sunday afternoon, the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced fresh cancellations, short-terminations, and extensive rescheduling of several key passenger and express trains through August 4, 2026.
Severe Track Damage Near New Harangajao
According to official railway sources, continuous rains triggered a major landslide covering nearly 200 meters of railway track adjacent to New Harangajao station. The debris and structural damage have rendered the section unsafe for train operations.
Although technical teams and restoration crews are working on a war footing to clear the tracks and restore stability, ongoing weather challenges have slowed progress. Railway authorities confirmed that full restoration may take time, and a definitive timeline for resuming normal services is yet to be announced.
