Political tempers flared in the Barak Valley on Sunday as the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Cachar District Committee organized a high-voltage protest demonstration at the historic Statue of Shahid Khudiram Bose in Silchar. The protest was launched against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior leader Sonia Gandhi, following allegations of disrespect shown toward the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.
Armed with placards, banners, and shouting high-decibel slogans, a massive gathering of ruling party workers, youth activists, and local supporters choked the heart of the city, calling for an immediate and unconditional public apology from the Congress high command.

Addressing the gathered crowd, the leadership launched a scathing attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing the party of consistently disregarding national sentiments and iconic patriotic symbols.
Leaders Condemn Alleged AICC Independence Day Incident
Speaking on the occasion, Silchar MLA Dr. Rajdeep Roy emphasized that ‘Vande Mataram’ holds an indelible place in India’s freedom movement and the ethos of every citizen. He remarked that any attempt to dismiss or interrupt the National Song during a solemn occasion like Independence Day demonstrates ideological bankruptcy.
Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha and Dholai MLA Amiya Kanti Das echoed these views, asserting that the youth of Barak Valley will not tolerate any insult to national honor. BJYM District President Kuldeep Nihal Choudhury stated that the youth wing would intensify its agitation across the district if the Congress leadership fails to tender an apology to the nation.
The demonstration concluded after several senior representatives addressed the media, reiterating their stance to take the political fight to the grassroots level across Assam.
