Arson in Assam: Rs 9.7 Lakh Boring Machine Destroyed in Silchar’s Saratpally; Police Probe Personal Enmity

Date:

A shocking act of alleged vandalism and arson has been reported from the Saratpally area of Silchar, Assam, leading to a significant loss of property and raising concerns about local security. A sophisticated machine used for laying water pipes was completely gutted after being deliberately set on fire by unidentified miscreants late on Friday night.

The gravity of the incident on Netaji Lane became apparent on Saturday morning when the remnants of the machine were discovered, causing widespread concern among the community.

Owner Decries Financial Ruin, Suspects Revenge
The owner of the destroyed equipment, Nirmal Das, has voiced his distress over the massive financial setback. “This machine, which I had purchased for approximately Rs 9 lakh 70 thousand, is now completely burned and useless,” Mr. Das stated. “I am facing a huge financial crisis.”

Mr. Das strongly believes the destruction was not random but a targeted act of sabotage stemming from personal enmity or a grudge. He suspects a locally known individual or group with a personal score to settle may be behind the criminal act.

Locals Demand Swift Justice from Administration
In the wake of the incident, the machine’s operator, Samiran Das, along with other Saratpally residents, has issued a collective appeal to the local administration and police. They are demanding that the authorities launch an intensive investigation to quickly identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this malicious destruction.

The community is calling for strict legal action against the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent against such acts of vandalism and economic crime in the future. Police officials are expected to register a case of arson and begin their investigation into the owner’s claims of personal enmity.
