POSCO Act Invoked: 60-Year-Old Man Arrested in Hailakandi for Allegedly Raping, Impregnating 16-Year-Old Minor

A shocking incident has been reported in the Lala area of Hailakandi district, where a 60-year-old man, identified as Samiran Nath, has been arrested by police for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old minor girl.

The deplorable incident reportedly occurred when the accused took advantage of the victim being alone at her residence. The minor girl, who is orphaned, lives with her grandmother in the Lala area. The crime came to light after the minor was discovered to be pregnant.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s grandmother, the police launched an investigation and successfully apprehended the accused, Samiran Nath.

The accused was produced before the court, which subsequently ordered a two-day police remand for further interrogation and investigation into the heinous crime.

Meanwhile, medical examinations of the victim have been completed, confirming her pregnancy. The police have filed a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, underscoring the severity of the crime against a minor. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
