Hailakandi Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in two recent house theft cases, arresting both the alleged thief and the owner of a jewellery shop who reportedly purchased the stolen gold ornaments.
The arrests relate to two separate incidents that occurred in the town a few days ago, where a substantial quantity of gold jewellery was stolen from two different residences.
Acting on the complaints (Sadar Police Outpost Case Nos. 161/25 and 164/25), an investigation team led by SI Shankar Nath, Officer-in-Charge of the College Outpost, successfully apprehended the two accused individuals on Thursday.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
- Rijju Mia Borbhuiya (The Thief): The main accused in the theft cases.
- Dildar Sunar (Jeweller/Receiver of Stolen Goods): The owner of a gold shop who allegedly purchased the stolen ornaments. Sunar is reportedly a resident of Sarbhog in Assam’s Barpeta district.
Both accused were produced before the court and have been remanded to two days of police custody for further interrogation. The police are continuing their investigation to recover the remaining stolen valuables and uncover the full extent of this gold theft racket.
