Massive corruption and poor quality work have been alleged in the road repair project connecting the Katigora-Harinagar Road to Katirail-Moinarpar PWD Road. Locals in the Jagadishpur area are outraged after the newly laid Semi-Dense Bituminous Concrete (SDBC) blacktop began peeling off just one or two days after construction was completed.
The ₹41 lakh project, awarded to Green Valley Construction, is now under intense scrutiny. Locals have accused the construction firm of using substandard materials and engaging in blatant corruption.
Immediate Deterioration Sparks Outrage
Residents complained that the road was not properly cleaned before the SDBC was laid, and an insufficient quantity of bitumen was used, resulting in the new surface failing to adhere properly and lacking durability.
Despite initial complaints being ignored by both the contracting firm and the concerned department, the situation escalated. Irate locals called for the immediate suspension of work and submitted a memorandum to Katigora Circle Officer, Dr. Robert Toler, demanding an urgent intervention and a full-scale investigation into the fraudulent work.
Department Engineer Confirms Irregularities
Responding to the serious allegations, a departmental Site Engineer conducted an on-site inspection. During the inspection, the engineer reportedly acknowledged and admitted that irregularities and sub-standard work were found in certain sections of the road.
The department has assured the public that the sections where the blacktop has peeled off will be repaired and relaid. However, locals are demanding accountability, questioning who will be held responsible for the wasted public funds spent on a road that failed within 48 hours.
