A major attempt at illegal border crossing involving an international trafficking network has been foiled by the Khowai District Police. A Bangladeshi national was apprehended in the Durgabazar area of Khowai town on Saturday evening, sparking a significant police investigation into a suspected local network of human traffickers operating across three states.
The arrest was executed by a special team from the Khowai District Police. The recovery of a mobile phone from the suspect is now providing crucial leads that police believe will soon dismantle a widespread racket facilitating illegal cross-border movement.
🛑 Journey Across Three States Halted
Addressing the media at the Khowai Police Station, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Krishnadhan Sarkar identified the arrested Bangladeshi national as Md. Sagar Farji (40), son of Md. Aojal Farji, a resident of Dhansagar village under Morelganj Police Station in the Khulna District of Bangladesh.
Preliminary interrogation revealed a complex itinerary used by the individual:
- Md. Sagar Farji allegedly entered India illegally and used the borders of West Bengal and Assam before reaching Tripura.
- His final objective was to illegally cross the Tripura-Bangladesh border via the Khowai route to return home.
OC Sarkar confirmed that the arrest successfully cut short his journey, preventing an illegal border crossing.
📱 Mobile Phone Traces Lead to Trafficking Ring
The core focus of the ongoing investigation is the mobile phone recovered from Sagar Farji. Police sources confirm that the device contains multiple contact details and communications related to the trafficking syndicate involved in his illegal transit.
Police sources indicated that an immediate and large-scale operation will be launched based on these mobile leads to apprehend the entire active network of brokers and agents operating within Khowai and possibly extending into neighboring states.
💰 Local Nexus and Public Outcry
The incident confirms long-standing public complaints regarding the unchecked movement of foreign nationals across the India-Bangladesh border, often facilitated by a network of brokers on both sides.
Local residents allege that:
A cross-border syndicate of brokers (Dallals) assists in illegal crossings for large sums of money.
These syndicates successfully bypass surveillance by intelligence agencies and state police forces across various Indian states.
There is a notable lapse in surveillance by border security forces, which residents claim is exacerbating the problem and contributing to increasing resentment and security concerns among the populace.
The Khowai Police Administration has now put the illegal flow of people through Khowai town under intense scrutiny, with strict action against the responsible trafficking network now considered a matter of urgency.
