CACHAR, Assam: In a major crackdown against illegal smuggling, the Gumrah Police under Katigorah Police Station achieved significant success this morning by seizing a large consignment of illegal foreign cigarettes.
During a routine search operation, Gumrah Police intercepted a truck traveling from Tripura towards Meghalaya. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a massive cache of contraband goods.
According to police sources, the successful raid recovered 120 cartons of illegal foreign-made cigarettes. The estimated market value of the seized cigarettes is approximately ₹3.5 lakh. In addition to the cigarettes, illegal Burmese betel nut (supari) was also recovered from the truck.
The truck driver, identified as Ajaymani Jamatia from Tripura, has been immediately arrested by the police.
The police operation in Gumrah has caused a stir in the local area. Police officials stated that such intensive search operations will continue in the future to effectively curb the illegal trafficking of banned goods across the region.
