Haflong, Assam: The Assam Police have registered another major success in their counter-insurgency efforts following an encounter late Monday night at the sensitive Cachar–Dima Hasao border, specifically in the Jinam Valley area. The gunfight resulted in the death of one militant belonging to the HPC(D) (Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic) faction.
The deceased has been identified as Modi Mar, a cadre whose residence was in the Borarkap area of Dima Hasao district.
Sequence of Events
The confrontation was triggered by an attempted armed robbery. According to reports, HPC(D) militants attempted to loot a vehicle driver at gunpoint. The miscreants allegedly fired two rounds at the driver during the attempt.
Upon receiving the information, the Dima Hasao Police, who are stationed along the border, swiftly reached the scene. The arrival of the police led to a direct confrontation with the militants.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, the Dima Hasao Police successfully neutralized one HPC(D) cadre, Modi Mar, who was killed on the spot.
Police have immediately initiated a detailed investigation into the entire incident, which has heightened tension and vigilance across the Cachar-Dima Hasao border region.
