SILCHAR, December 5 – The Barak Valley is poised for a significant developmental push as Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma embarks on a crucial two-day tour of Cachar and Hailakandi districts starting Friday, December 6. The visit is strategically focused on empowering women through financial inclusion and accelerating long-pending infrastructure projects.
The Chief Minister’s itinerary is packed with ceremonies for the state’s flagship Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) scheme, culminating in the highly anticipated infrastructure launch.
Fulfilling Dreams: The Madhura Bridge Foundation
The highlight of the tour is the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Madhura Bridge over the Barak River, scheduled for Saturday, December 7. This project is a crucial step towards fulfilling a commitment to the region.
Local residents of Malugram and Dudhpatil have long dreamed of this vital connectivity project. The bridge is expected to drastically improve inter-district movement and trade in the region.
Minister Kaushik Rai, overseeing the event arrangements, personally inspected the site alongside Public Works Department (PWD) officials and local community representatives. The Minister stated:
“The fulfillment of promises and the development of the Barak Valley are becoming a reality under the visionary leadership of Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The long-awaited foundation stone for the Madhura Ghat Bridge on the Barak River will be laid by him on December 7.”
MMUA: Major Financial Boost for Women Entrepreneurs
Dr. Sarma’s visit strongly emphasizes the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), a scheme designed to foster grassroots women entrepreneurship. The Chief Minister will distribute financial assistance cheques to thousands of beneficiaries across three major events:
December 6 (Afternoon): MMUA Cheque Distribution at Borjalenga Field, Dholai Constituency.
December 7 (Late Morning): MMUA Cheque Distribution at D.N.H.S. Field, Udharbond.
The massive distribution drive underscores the government’s commitment to making women financially self-reliant and driving economic growth at the community level.
The two-day tour reinforces the current administration’s focus on accelerating development and ensuring all communities benefit directly from the state’s welfare programs.
