Silchar, Assam: Silchar Sadar Police have arrested two youths in connection with a shocking case of moral policing that took place recently in the Ambikapatty area of the town. The incident, where a mentally challenged man was subjected to brutal and humiliating public punishment, drew swift action from law enforcement after media coverage brought the horror to light.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajdeep Biswas and Sourav Sen.
The Atrocious Incident
The incident, which occurred a few days ago but was widely reported by the media only yesterday, involved a group of unruly youths accusing the victim—a mentally unstable man—of theft.
Instead of handing him over to the authorities, the mob proceeded to administer a heinous, “Taliban-style” punishment:
- The victim was tied to an electric pole.
- The youths shaved his hair and applied lime and soot (chuna-kali) all over his body.
- He was subjected to merciless physical abuse by the attackers.
Police Act Swiftly
Following the media reports detailing the horrific act of vigilante justice, the Silchar Sadar Police launched an immediate operation to trace and apprehend the culprits.
The investigation led to the arrest of Rajdeep Biswas and Paurab Sen. Adding a layer of controversy to the case, sources indicate that one of the accused, Paurab Sen, is the son of a former police officer.
Both arrested youths have been sent to judicial custody, with authorities signaling a strong stance against public vigilantism and moral policing.
