Connectivity Breakthrough: Haflong High-Level Meet Pushes East-West Corridor Opening to January 31st

Date:

Haflong, Assam: The holistic development of Barak Valley’s connectivity remains a top priority under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. In line with this commitment, a high-level review meeting was convened today at the Conference Hall of Haflong Circuit House, chaired by Minister Kaushik Roy.

The meeting focused on two critical lifelines of the region: the East-West Corridor and the Lumding-Badarpur rail link.

East-West Corridor: Traffic Expected by January 31
The primary agenda was to review the progress, stipulated timeline, and technical aspects of the ongoing Jatinga-Harangajao East-West Corridor construction.

Following a detailed discussion on the project’s technical necessities and timeline, Minister Kaushik Roy announced a major breakthrough:

“Vehicle movement on the crucial stretch of the highway will commence by January 31st. While final finishing work in one or two sections may take an additional two months, the significant portion of the main highway is nearing completion.”

This announcement offers substantial relief and marks a major milestone for the delayed project, promising smoother road connectivity to the Barak Valley.

Railway Preparedness: Ensuring Monsoon Resilience
The meeting also addressed the essential pre-monsoon preparedness of the Lumding-Badarpur Railway Line, particularly in the vulnerable Jatinga and Mupa areas. Given the recurring landslides during the rainy season, preemptive measures are being fast-tracked to ensure minimal disruption to train services, which are vital for the region’s supply chain and passenger movement.

The high-level review was attended by key officials, underscoring the government’s serious commitment to the projects. Attendees included:

  • Hon’ble Minister Smt. Nandita Gorlosa
  • Hon’ble Chief Executive Member, DHAC, Shri Debolal Gorlosa
  • District Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Shri Munindra Nath Ngate
  • EM of DHAC, Shri Donpainon Thaisen
  • Senior Divisional Engineer, NF Railway, Shri Siddharth Guleria
  • Project Director, Shri Yogesh Rawat, and other relevant departmental officials.

The focused discussion ensures that both road and rail infrastructure projects receive necessary high-level monitoring to meet deadlines and mitigate risks, ultimately boosting the region’s economic growth and strategic mobility.
