BREAKING: Missing for 8 Days, Man’s Body Found in Dense Forests of Katlicherra; One Arrested!

Katlicherra, Hailakandi: Tension has gripped the Katlicherra area of Hailakandi district after the blood-soaked body of a man, missing for eight days, was recovered from the dense forests of Lakhighena, near the Assam-Mizoram border. The deceased has been identified as Nilanta Roy, a resident of Baruncherra Jogipara village.

The Discovery: A Brutal Crime Exposed
According to police sources, Nilanta Roy’s body was found hidden deep inside a bamboo grove in the Lakhighena forest. The recovery was made on Tuesday afternoon following a rigorous search operation. Initial medical examinations revealed that the victim had been brutally hacked to death; the body bore two deep machete wounds on the head and one on the leg.

The Katlicherra police have successfully recovered the murder weapon (a machete/da) from the crime scene, which is believed to belong to the primary suspect.

The Suspect and Arrest
The prime accused, identified as Nripesh Namasudra (50), has been taken into custody. The recovery of the body was made possible only after the police interrogated Nripesh, who eventually led them to the hidden location in the forest.

The recovery operation was conducted in the presence of:

  • The Magistrate of Hailakandi
  • A massive police contingent
  • Hundreds of local residents

Timeline of the Incident

  • December 8, 2025: Nilanta Roy and Nripesh Namasudra were last seen together entering the Lakhighena forest area to visit a bamboo grove. Neither returned home that evening.
  • The Search: Following their disappearance, Nilanta’s wife, Suniti Roy, filed a missing person’s report (GD) at the local police station.
  • December 15, 2025 (Monday): Based on local intelligence and family statements, Katlicherra police tracked down and detained Nripesh Namasudra.
  • December 16, 2025 (Tuesday): Under intense questioning, Nripesh confessed to the crime and led the police to the body.

Current Status
While the primary suspect is in custody, the motive behind the cold-blooded murder is yet to be fully established. Police are investigating whether the incident was the result of a personal grudge, a financial dispute, or an altercation that broke out in the forest. The body has been sent to S.K. Roy Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
