Silchar Infrastructure Review: Minister Kaushik Rai Sets Deadlines for Key Road Projects & Greenfield Airport

In a major administrative push to accelerate road infrastructure and urban connectivity across Cachar district, Minister for Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Housing & Urban Affairs, and Cooperation, Kaushik Rai, chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the District Commissioner’s Office in Silchar.

The high-level meeting focused on evaluating progress, resolving critical land acquisition bottlenecks, and establishing strict operational timelines for flagship state and central infrastructure projects.

High-Profile Administrative & Political Presence

The meeting was attended by key political figures and top administrative authorities, including:

  • Rajdeep Roy, Hon’ble MLA
  • Rajdeep Goala, Hon’ble MLA (Dholai)
  • Rahul Kumar Gupta (IAS), District Commissioner, Cachar
  • Rajib Roy (ACS), District Development Commissioner, Cachar
  • Senior officials from the Cachar District Administration, Public Works Department (PWRD), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and land acquisition officers.

Key Infrastructure Corridors Under Review

The review covered a broad spectrum of intra-city flyovers, river bridges, and inter-state highway links:

  1. Silchar Elevated Corridor:Status review of the landmark flyover stretch running from Rangirkhari Point to Trunk Road (Capital Point) aimed at decongesting Silchar’s central core.
  2. Birbal Bazar–SMCH Road: Execution roadmap for the four-laning extension, eviction drives, and utility relocation up to Silchar Medical College & Hospital.
  3. Madhuraghat Bridge:Progress on the crucial bridge across the Barak River connecting Malugram directly to Dudhpatil.
  4. Capital–Rangirkhari Road: Upgrades and widening of the major urban arterial stretch.
  5. Regional Arterial Highways: Performance evaluation of key regional links including Silchar–Malua, Badarpur–Malidhar, Silchar–Jiribam, Pailapool–Hangrum, Borkhola–Kalain routes, and the Silghat Bridge.

Focus on Land Acquisition & Strategic Projects

Minister Kaushik Rai conducted a detailed status audit of ongoing land acquisition and compensation mechanisms under flagship schemes such as Bharatmala and Asom Mala. Special focus was directed toward clearing unencumbered land packages for the proposed Silchar Greenfield Airport and other high-priority state initiatives.

The discussions addressed ground-level impediments affecting land acquisition, compensation payouts, and utility shifting, ensuring that execution barriers are eliminated systematically.

Strict Directives for Time-Bound Completion

Stressing the commitment of the State Government toward the welfare and economic development of Cachar, Minister Kaushik Rai issued strict instructions to all line departments:

  • Inter-Departmental Coordination: Maintain seamless coordination between PWD, NHIDCL, District Administration, and utility agencies (APDCL, PHE).
  • Formalities Acceleration: Expedite all pending administrative, statutory, and compensation formalities without procedural delays.
  • Timeline Compliance: Guarantee that every single infrastructure project is executed efficiently and delivered strictly within its stipulated timeline for the people of Cachar.
