Assam Budget 2026-27 is People-Centric, Will Drive Cachar’s Growth: District BJP President Rupam Saha

District BJP President Rupam Saha termed the Assam Budget 2026-27 “people-centric and development-oriented,” stating that it will significantly accelerate infrastructure and educational growth across Cachar district.

Addressing a press conference at the District BJP office in Itakhola on Thursday, Saha outlined the key allocations and project proposals earmarked for the Barak Valley in the state budget presented by Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.

Key Projects Earmarked for Cachar District

During the press briefing, the BJP leadership highlighted several flagship projects aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape of Silchar and surrounding areas.

Gurucharan University Infrastructure Major budgetary support for upgrading campus facilities and academic infrastructure.
Asom Mala 4.0 Road Network Allocation of ₹800 crore for state highway and major district road construction in Cachar.
Silchar Zoo Establishment Proposed eco-tourism project to boost regional tourism and wildlife conservation.
Mini Secretariat Expansion Upgradation to ensure full administrative functionality for regional governance.
Dolu Greenfield Airport Continued budget push to expedite land acquisition and civil works.

Focus on Connectivity and Higher Education

Speaking to media persons, Rupam Saha emphasized that the state government has maintained a balanced approach toward infrastructure, higher education, and public administration in the southern region of the state.

“The allocation of ₹800 crore under the Asom Mala project will overhaul rural and urban road connectivity across Cachar. Furthermore, turning vision into reality for Gurucharan University and establishing a dedicated zoo in Silchar reflects the state government’s commitment to Barak Valley’s long-term growth,” Saha said.

The press conference was attended by prominent district leaders, including Cachar District BJP Vice Presidents Amitabh Rai and Jhalak Chakraborty, General Secretary Gopal Kanti Roy, and Cachar Zilla Parishad Chairman Kankan Narayan Sikidar.
