In a major milestone for the urban infrastructure of Barak Valley, the long-awaited Capital Point to Rangirkhari Elevated Corridor project has officially entered its preliminary ground execution stage. Specialized, heavy-duty piling rigs and soil-testing machinery deployed by the project contractor, Shree Gautam Construction Company, arrived at the Rangirkhari point on Thursday, bringing fresh optimism to residents struggling with chronic traffic congestion.
The initial phase of operations focuses on Soil Bearing Capacity (SBC) analysis, deep soil examination, and load test piling. Engineering teams will assess sub-surface conditions along the high-density commercial stretch before full-scale foundation work begins.
Full-Scale Piling Expected Within 2–3 Weeks
Technical assessments and preliminary test pile reports are expected to wrap up shortly, paving the way for central pier construction.
“The arrival of specialized pile-testing equipment marks a concrete step forward in fulfilling a long-standing demand of Silchar’s citizens,” stated Cachar District BJP President Rupam Saha, expressing gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for advancing the infrastructure initiative.
Saha noted that full-scale piling work will begin promptly after technical clearances and pile load testing are complete.

Single-Pillar Model Preserves Ground-Level Business Operations
A key feature of the final project design is the shift to an exclusively single-pillar configuration. Unlike traditional dual-pillar portal frames, placing a central mono-pier down the road’s median minimizes ground footprint.
This arrangement leaves clear 5.5-meter ground service roads on both sides, ensuring local traffic movement, emergency vehicles, and shopfront accessibility across key commercial areas—including Devdoot Point, Premtola, and Rangirkhari—remain unhindered during and after construction.
Long-Term Traffic Relief for Silchar
The Capital Point–Rangirkhari axis serves as Silchar’s central traffic artery, handling transit toward NIT Silchar, Assam University, and Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Once completed, the 3.462 km flyover will segregate long-distance through-traffic from local vehicular movement, cutting travel times and resolving long-standing bottlenecks in the district headquarters.
District authorities and local traffic police are working out traffic diversion blueprints along Rangirkhari to ensure smooth vehicle movement while soil testing and heavy machinery operations continue.
