BSF Foils Cattle Smuggling Bid Along India-Bangladesh Border

BSF’s 171 Battalion in Sribhumi District, Assam, thwarted a cattle smuggling attempt. One cattle was seized; smugglers evaded capture.

Acting on specific intelligence, vigilant troops of the 171 Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) under Sector Silchar, Mizoram & Cachar Frontier, successfully intercepted a cattle smuggling operation on 8th March 2025. The incident occurred near the India-Bangladesh border area in Sribhumi District, Assam. The operation led to the rescue and seizure of one cattle that was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.

The involved smugglers managed to escape and remain untraced, despite the prompt action taken by the BSF troops. Officials continue to investigate the matter and strengthen measures to curb such cross-border smuggling activities. The BSF remains committed to maintaining security and vigilance along the sensitive India-Bangladesh border.
