Major Drug Bust in Assam: Joint Operation Seizes ₹13 Crore Worth of Morphine at Badarpur Ghat, One Arrested

Date:

In one of the biggest anti-narcotics drives in the region, a joint operation conducted by the Sribhumi Police, Cachar Police, and the 38 Assam Rifles led to the seizure of high-grade morphine estimated to be worth ₹13 crore on the international market. The operation was carried out at Badarpur Ghat under Cachar district on Monday.

One suspect, identified as Dola Raja, a resident of Panchgram, has been arrested in connection with the massive haul.

Clever Concealment in Fuel Tank Foiled

According to official sources, the joint security forces launched a targeted operation early Monday morning following specific intelligence inputs regarding a major drug consignment moving through the district border.

Security personnel intercepted a suspected Mahindra Bolero vehicle at Badarpur Ghat. Upon conducting a thorough search, officials discovered an artificially modified secret chamber built inside the vehicle’s fuel tank.

A total of 8.224 kilograms of pure morphine was recovered from the hidden compartment.

Senior Officials Present at the Spot

The high-stakes operation was executed under the direct supervision of top officials. Sribhumi District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Leena Doley, alongside senior police personnel from both Cachar and Sribhumi districts, and high-ranking officers of the 38 Assam Rifles, were present at the scene to oversee the search and seizure procedure.

Addressing media personnel at the site, SSP Leena Doley confirmed the recovery and stated:

“Based on precise intelligence inputs, our joint team successfully intercepted the vehicle and recovered over 8 kg of morphine concealed inside a customized fuel tank. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹13 crore.”

Investigation On to Unearth Broader Network

The arrested individual, Dola Raja, is currently in police custody and undergoing rigorous interrogation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the contraband was being smuggled through interstate routes, using customized vehicular modifications to evade security checkpoints.

Law enforcement agencies have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain, uncover the backward and forward linkages, and apprehend the kingpins behind this cross-border drug syndicate.
